40 Day Retreat with Jesus: Day 14

Today's study brings us to the book of Luke, which happens to be one of my favorite books because it's filled with parables and, well, I'm a sucker for parables.

Today's Focus: Luke 15:11-32

Once again, since this parable is on the longer side, I will write up what the Compass Bible summarizes here!
The parable ends. Jesus never reveals how it came out. Did the older brother join the party and reconcile with his younger, wayward brother? Or did he stay outside, fuming over the seeming injustice of his father's extravagant love? The story remains unresolved because it is, in fact, an invitation-an invitation to th Pharisees and other opponents of Jesus to join Him in welcoming sinners and other outsiders into the joyful party of the Kingdom.
Of all the parables, this was the one I did not understand. I thought it was about being grateful and eventually being rewarded for your work, I did not get the Pharisees angle. Oh well, I'm still learning. So I'm curious of others receive a different message from these parables??
