40 Day Retreat with Jesus: Day 17

Yesterday's verse was really powerful and inspirational. Let's see if we can get the same message today :)

Today's focus:
Philippians 4:4-9
Most of all, friends, always rejoice in the Lord! I never tire of saying it: Rejoice! Keep your gentle nature so that all people will know what it looks like to walk in His footsteps. The Lord is ever present with us. Don’t be anxious about things; instead, pray. Pray about everything. He longs to hear your requests, so talk to God about your needs and be thankful for what has come. And know that the peace of God (a peace that is beyond any and all of our human understanding) will stand watch over your hearts and minds in Jesus, the Anointed One.
Finally, brothers and sisters, fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy. Keep to the script: whatever you learned and received and heard and saw in me—do it—and the God of peace will walk with you.
Okay, so this is hands down probably one of my favorite verses because to me, it illustrates the ideal relationship we have with Jesus, but also the fact that he *wants* to be involved, he *wants* to hear our requests! We are to live in prayer, literally praying all the time. We shouldn't be afraid to come to Jesus with our requests, our problems, or to pray for our friends, family, or others. This is just how it works, it's what we're supposed to do. I make it a habit to pray throughout the day...my kids see me do it, my husband sees me do it, and I hope that I'm instilling in them a sense that it's *always* okay to talk to God ;)

This also explains that we are supposed to keep a gentle nature. This is so important. Have you ever met someone that just exudes faith, grace, and love? Don't you just gravitate toward that person? That's the person I'd love to be someday, but I have lots of work to do!
